Junk Mail by Larry Refsland
Every day I go through the same routine when I come home from work. I stand over the garbage can and sort through the pile of junk mail! I’m sure the post office is grateful for the revenue this mail generates. But for me, it’s just that much more garbage to haul out to the curb. Offers for credit cards, solicitations for donations, sweepstakes “winner” announcements, and more credit card applications are just some of the seemingly endless stack of envelopes that fill my mailbox. Occasionally, in the middle of the stack of mail is a real genuine letter! A letter written by someone I actually know!
It’s exciting to read a letter from someone that isn’t asking for money and who is telling me interesting things about themselves. Good letters ask me how I’m doing and bring back memories of times we’ve had together. Letters like that are special because it means someone took the time to say, “I was thinking about you.”
Did you ever look at the Bible as a letter from God to you? It is! In it, he gives us an update on what he’s been doing. He tells news about his plans to visit us. He gives the details on his plans to come and take us to his place someday. He even writes about his preparations to get our place ready for us.
Some people might toss the Bible aside like so much junk mail, but I savor every word. I know whom it comes from and that he’s taken the time to let me know he was thinking about me. Be sure to take some time to set aside the junk mail and read some of God’s letter to you. It beats a credit card offer any day!

It's the end of the year and you might be figuring out your balance sheet, but what about the net worth of your life?
How much are you worth? Add up your assets, subtract what you owe, and what you have left is your net worth. If you try to borrow money or have to settle an estate, going through these equations are a necessity. Everyone has a goal to increase his or her net-worth as much as possible. But I’m not referring to your balance sheet. I’m talking about the value of you, not your possessions.
How much are you worth? In the eyes of God, you have infinite worth, enough to send his own Son to die for you, so that you can live forever with him. How much is that worth? What would someone have to pay you to sacrifice your only child so that someone else could live? It can’t be measured in dollars and cents, can it?
As you start your day today, remember the value you have to God. No matter what you feel others think of you or even what you may think of yourself, God has placed the highest possible value on you. Others may put you down, but that won’t change your worth to God. You may have even said, “I’m no good, I’m not of any value to anyone.” I’m sorry, but that’s simply not true!
There is nothing you can do to diminish your value in God’s eyes. In fact, when we receive his love and forgiveness, he sees us as blameless and without even a blemish. God made an investment in you and He will receive a good return as you yield your life to Him. You are worth more than you can imagine. Not with perishable riches, but with eternal wealth beyond compare.
